This past weekend the Wellington Eventing Showcase demonstrated to the greater Wellington community that eventing is an exciting spectator sport which appeals to a broad base of equestrian fans.
The entire event was a huge success from every perspective; Event organizers Mark Bellissimo, Jim Wolf and Equestrian Sports Productions orchestrated a top notch horse event at an exceptional venue keeping competitors challenged, spectators engaged and owners, sponsors and supporters thrilled with the experience.
The VIP tent, which was sold out, allowed owners, riders, supporters and spectators to mingle under the same roof. Every last detail went into making this a successful event, including the quality of the catering, the social aspect of the cocktail parties (sponsored by Wellington Equestrian Realty) and the friendly and attentive service for all who attended. For those who weren’t able to get their hands on a VIP ticket before the event sold out, there was ample seating in the grand stands for dressage and stadium, and wonderful viewing from the rail surrounding the cross country course. To encourage spectator attendance, parking and general admission was free!
From a rider’s standpoint the bar was raised this year with more entries and several more international riders traveling to the US to compete in this event. The venue also was a true competition, featuring a very challenging stadium course (which claimed many rails) and a beautiful galloping cross country course designed by Mark Phillips and built by Erik Bull. Mark Bellissimo’s staged a perfect PR coup with the grand finale, requiring competitors to gallop through the VIP tent and negotiate a substantial drop jump into the dressage/stadium arena and through the finish flags!
Boyd Martin returned to capture his second victory at the Wellington Eventing Showcase, this year aboard his new Olympic hopeful mount, Blackfoot Mystery. Martin couldn’t have been a better spokesperson for this event with his natural charisma and appreciation for Bellissimo’s vision to draw more supporters and owners to the sport.
Matt Varney, Craig Martin and Rob Desino were also on hand at the event all weekend, as Wellington Equestrian Realty was the Presenting Sponsor, bolstering the prize money to an unprecedented $75,000 with their $50,000 backing of the event. Visionaries in their own right, the team at Wellington Equestrian Realty wants other eventing riders, supporters and owners to feel at home in Wellington as they do in Ocala. Together in partnership with Mark Bellissimo and Equestrian Sport Productions, Wellington Equestrian Realty hopes to attract more owners and sponsors to get behind the sport of eventing and to increase prize money for future competitions throughout the state of Florida.
There certainly wasn’t a shortage of media coverage for this event either. In it’s second year of competition and through Bellissimo’s PR savvy, the media world took notice as well. Below we’ve gathered a broad list of media coverage from the event.
