International Level Dressage Rider Silva Martin

Silva Martin is an international level dressage rider who is based out of Cochranville, Pennsylvania. She and her husband, Boyd Martin, own and operate Windurra USA, an Olympic level dressage and eventing facility, near the heart of Chester County’s famed horse country.

Silva, who is German born, relocated to the USA in 2007 to start her own training business alongside her husband. They initially operated out of Phillip Dutton’s barn in West Grove, Pa. until a tragic barn fire claimed the lives of several of Boyd’s event horses and required that the Martin’s relocate. Already in the process of purchasing their own farm in nearby Cochranville, they quickly focused on rebuilding their business.

Today Windurra USA is a full service facility equipped with beautifully designed dressage and stadium jumping rings, as well as a large cross country course and exercise track. They frequently have schooling shows and clinics, offer cross country schooling to area equestrians and host US Olympic Eventing Team’s training sessions conducted by coach David O’Connor.

Silva is a regular competitor in Wellington during the winter season, and in 2014 she represented the US for her first time as a member of the Nations Cup Team which secured the gold medal. Silva was aboard her homebred mare, Rosa Cha W, who she has continued to ride in training sessions with US Chef d’Equipe Robert Dover, until Silva had a fall at home and suffered a brain injury.

Steady Determination

Silva is remarkable in her steady determination and ability to overcome adversity. She has continued to astound her clients, students and fans with her recovery and dedication to her business and profession. While grounded from riding, she passionately coached her students and continued to oversee the training of full roster of client’s horses.

Back in the saddle full time, she has undergone multiple surgeries to help improve her sight, which was impacted by her schooling accident at home. She hopes that her determination and vocalization of helmet awareness helps other dressage riders understand the importance of always wearing appropriate head gear. Silva is well aware that if she had not been wearing her Charles Owen helmet while schooling at home that her riding career and perhaps her life would have been cut short.

Celebration and Competition

2015 was a celebration of personal and professional triumphs for the Martins, with Boyd being a member of the gold medal Pan American Eventing Team and Silva returning to riding and training. In September of 2015 the Martins also welcomed their first child into the world, and there is no doubt that Nox Christoph Martin will soon be another world class equestrian!

Silva plans to return to the Grand Prix ring in full force for the 2016 competition season aboard her dynamic homebred mare Rosa Cha W and the talented Aesthete, who is owned by long time client and friend Faye Wolf. In addition she will be competing several young homebred and client owned horses at the developing levels and showing Benefactor RRS in the Prix St. George ring. “Benny”, who is owned by Melinda Walton & T. Larry Smith, has already garnered several regional championships and is showing certain promise as another Grand Prix partner in Silva Martin’s string of competitive stars!
