Margaret McIntosh, “Gigi”, is an International Para Equestrian who trains out of Missy and Jessica Ransehousen’s Blue Hill Farm in Unionville Pennsylvania.
Gigi will be returning to Wellington this season with a vengeance, determined to earn her qualifications for the US team. This is Gigi’s story, and she invites you to join in her Paraquest to be a member of the 2016 US Paralympic Team!
Gigi’s trainer Missy Ransehousen is an international event and dressage rider; career highlights include representing the US at the 1995 Buenos Aires Pan American Eventing team, placing 3rd at The Rolex Kentucky 3 Day Event in 2008 and serving as the US Paralympic coach from 2000 – 2012. Missy was also named coach of the year in 2011.
During the winter seasons Missy Ransehousen is based out of Ocala Florida and will be traveling with Margaret McIntosh (Gigi) to Wellington to coach her in the Global Dressage Festivals CPEDI3* in January. The Global Dressage Festival is held January 13th – 31st 2016 and serves as a qualifier for the 2016 US Paralympic team.
During the late 70‘s, Gigi began her formal riding career as a working student for well-known Event riders May and Denny Emerson before becoming the barn manager for dressage trainers Gunnar Ostergaard and Ellin Dixon. She then moved to Germany to apprentice with George and Inge Theodorescu and their daughter, Monika, who was recently named coach of the German dressage team.
Returning to the United States in 1983, Gigi competed in Three-day Eventing at the international level for many years, first making the United States Equestrian Team long list for the Pan American Games in 1990, and being invited to the USET Training sessions in 1997 and 1998. She finished the Fair Hill International Three Star in 1997 and the prestigious Rolex Kentucky CCI Four Star Three Day Event in both 1997 and 1998.
In the spring of 1999, Gigi was injured in a riding accident, resulting in incomplete quadriplegia and being Initially paralyzed from the chest down. After years of hard work, Gigi now walks with a cane, rides and skis. She qualified for the Para-lympics at International competitions earlier in 2012 but missed making the team by a narrow margin. She was the National Reserve Champion at the 2014 Para Selection Trials in Gladstone, NJ aboard her new mount, Rio Rio, a lovely RPSI mare.
