Palm Beach Polo – The Ultimate Wellington Experience!

Whether you’re coming to Wellington for vacation, or contemplating purchasing a home in our beautiful region, experiencing the Wellington lifestyle is incomplete until you have spent a day at Palm Beach Polo. For decades, the best international polo players have descended upon this region from around the globe for a full season of heart pounding competition. The seasons’ string of tournaments began December 31st, 2017 and will continue until the US Open Polo Championships, which concludes April 22nd, 2018 at the International Polo Club (IPC) in Palm Beach.

The history of polo traces back to 600 B.C. and 100 A.D. in Persia, where the sport evolved through the natural connection of humans to horses for entertainment and also as a way to train for war. Modern polo flourished in India as a past time for the British military and royalty, which is why horse sport became dubbed, “The Sport of Kings”. In the late 1800’s, James Gordan Bennett, who was the publisher of the New York Herald, was credited for bringing the game to the US after a trip to England. The game picked up steam in USA, Europe, Australia and South America, and today is played in over 80 countries. Palm Beach Polo remains one of the world’s top destinations for high goal polo.

Today, high goal polo is still regarded as a game for the affluent, but there has been a big push to make it more well known to the masses. The IPC (International Polo Club) offers lessons and clinics for those interested in learning about the sport, and tournaments are open to the public and a great family activity on the weekends. The IPC offers tickets for general admission, grandstand, field side tailgating and VIP tent tickets. In addition to watching the game and stomping divots in between chukkers, there’s also an incredible brunch each Sunday, pop up boutiques for shopping, and plenty of entertainment. So why not plan a day at Palm Beach Polo to take in great sport in a lively social setting!
